Home Time

Yesterday I updated my calendar for the next few months, trying to look ahead and figure out what all I've already gotten myself into. Seems like alot. Which surprises no one. But I think I'm about to run smack into that 'too much to do, too little time' mode that I frequent with relative ease.

I hear that sometimes you need to regroup. And recharge. (And not go to another wedding.) And refocus. And rethink. And re-whatever else.

And so, I'm headed home tomorrow. Some time at the 4N Ranch ought to be good.

Happy Labor Day weekend. Do something fun on Monday.

Completely unrelated... check out Donald Miller's new blog. He's the guy that wrote Blue Like Jazz and other fantastic (in my humble opinion) books. His first post here is H-Y-S-T-E-R-I-C-A-L. Again, opinion, and no reflection or relation to my political beliefs or agendas. I just thought it was a pretty funny response to Obama's identical email campaign. Let me know what you think...

Also completely unrelated, I would like to make note that a week from Sunday, at 10:00 am, I will be riding a horse on the beach. More on that later.

Happy Birthday!

Eatin' Pumpkin Bread

Well, not much to report from here. Just finished watching the Men's Marathon. Stinkin' fast, that's all I have to say. Too bad for the US-er's, but that was one heck of a fast race in those conditions. And cool for Kenya to get their marathon medal. It's been a crazy weekend so far... Friday night I went to an art show at a gallery downtown. There were 7-8 paintings auctioned off as a fundfaiser for our mission team headed to Nicaragua in October. (No, I'm not going; holding out for Africa this summer...) The Dallas art crowd is certainly quite interesting. I think most of the paintings went for anywhere from $1200-5500, so let's just say I was a little out of my element. But it was fun. This morning several of us went to Oak Cliff and volunteered with Central Dallas Ministries at their health/back to school fair. Then time to relax here tonight, and Dad is coming into town in the morning. Yeah! Now I'm running to take some pumpkin bread out of the over and see the outcome of the Men's 5000.

The real Olympics have begun!

7 AM. White Rock Lake. 71 degrees. Cool breeze off the lake. 10 miles. 9:50 pace. Gatorade. Hot shower. Breakfast burrito. Hammock. Book. Perfect Saturday morning.

Be sure to cheer on Deena Kastor (shown tonight) as she tackles the Women's Olympic Marathon. The running events have begun!

Check out this article about Ryan Hall. Somewhat lengthy, but pretty interesting. He'll take on the Men's Marathon in a week.

Speaking of marathons... If anyone knows of someone that is registered for the Chevron Houston Marathon in January and isn't able to run, please let me know. I'm looking for someone who might transfer their entry to me. I fear my number on the waiting list isn't quite going to cut it. And that's just not cool...

So Amber is currently my favorite person. She came home the other day with a new toy. I personally prefer to refer to it as our punishment enforcer for the feline that currently resides in our apartment. Either way you look at it, the "Bow & Mallow" is amazing. We went hunting the other night...

Lessons Abound

I have learned that Satan is very real, but that God continues to prove His goodness over and over to His people.

I have learned of the desperate need for Christians to join together in the battle for our hearts. And when we do, the strength He provides is incredible. Absolutely incredible.

I have learned to long more and more for Heaven.

I have learned that there are times when it's best to keep things to yourself. But there are also times when it's much better to let them out, regardless of the consequences.

I have learned that we need to experience moments that bring us to our knees and open our eyes.

I have learned that God meets us where we are and heals our brokenness.

I have learned to be oh so thankful for His love and for those around me that show it.

And I'm still learning...

Wedding-ness

Mission accomplished. Both of the Reid boys are hitched! (Everyone breathes a sigh of relief...) What a crazy time this has been! The weekend went really smoothly... well... except for when Chris & Stacey saved the day to keep me from having to wear a yellow dress, the chapel flooded due to a sudden monsoon that hit on Friday night, the wedding music wasn't completed until 10 minutes before rehearsal started because the computer crashed, Jerm forgot his vest and tie and some of the tuxes didn't fit, the unity candle wouldn't lite and ended up on the floor, the sound guy had never worked an Ipod before, and... you know, all the usual kinks of a wedding weekend.

But fun we did have... there was Katy playing Little Sally Walker in her wedding dress, a surprise from Justin & Andy at rehearsal, poker with milk duds and hot tamales (yes, boys, I did know about that), cooking lots of goodies for the bridal breakfast, Odis, and the fact that my two best buds are now married! Love you guys! Here are some pics from the weekend...

A Song and A Verse

Read I Believe In You lyrics

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:5-8
